It looks like the FAA is going to approve the airpark in spite of safety, environmental, and noise concerns. The corporation behind the airpark has hired a public relations firm to convince community leaders that the airpark will only be beneficial. Now is the time to make your voice heard. FAA says proposed Michael A. Perkins airpark has potential airspace conflicts

In November 2007, the proponents of the proposed Michael A. Perkins Airpark (formerly called the “Michael A. Perkins Auxiliary Field”) applied for an extension of a 2006 FAA airspace determination that was due to expire on December 23, 2007. In a letter dated March 10, 2008, the FAA denied the request for an extension, citing “potential airspace conflicts.” The proponents were told by the FAA that they may submit a new Notice of Landing Area Proposal, but the FAA recommends that the proponents first meet with an FAA representative to determine whether or not the airspace conflicts can be resolved.

The current FAA finding corroborates the air safety concerns expressed by local air traffic controllers, local pilots, Prescott City Council members and numerous private citizens. It is thus important that there be an open and in-depth consideration of these issues, with input from all concerned parties.

Dec. 13 Town Council Meeting

At the December 13 meeting of the Chino Valley Town Council, the Council voted to table their motion to hire Aviation Management Consulting Group until after the FAA completes its 90-day review of safety issues associated with the airpark’s proposed location. The FAA’s review commenced on November 5 and is scheduled to conclude approximately February 5. Vice Mayor Joel Baker expressed his opposition to spending $10,000 of the Town’s funds on hiring the consulting firm given the Town’s current financial situation. (more…)
